 DO NOT have a public water supply (in fact there is not even one available in our town). We create our own water system through the use of a 10,000 gallon water catchment tank. This tank catches rain water, which we then send through several filters (including an UV filter which makes it 99.99% safe to drink).
DO NOT use public electricty and in fact DO NOT even tie in to the public electrical system. All our property's power is provided through our solar PV panels, mounted on top of a recycled VW Bus. We have a back-up generator in place for emergencies & hope to add wind power to our system in the future.
DO NOT use a public sewage or trash service. We try to compost as much of the trash as possible - turning it into valuable planting soil. We also reuse gray water from the shower & sink to provide irrigation for our organic garden efforts - and hope to expand this even more in the future. |
