*More pictures in our Photo Album*
Check local flyers for upcoming events while you are in town. Note that usually these events are not publicized via the Internet - only on the local radio and through flyers.
Some possibilities to look out for:
1. Ocean View Pohue Plaza Weekly Swap Meet
Held every Saturday in Pohue Plaza (3 1/2 blocks from Lova Lava Land) from 6AM - Noon. Local residents set up booths selling everything from tourist souvenirs to food to used furniture. A fun way to experience the local culture even if you aren't a shopper!
2. Kau Farmer's Market:
Held each Wednesday from 8AM-4PM and Saturday from 8AM-Noon at the Ace Hardware lot in Naalehu Town Center - 17 miles south from Ocean View off the main highway 11 (NOT the Ace Hardware in Ocean View). Here's your chance to buy local produce!
3. Desert Rose Cafe Live Music
Check with the Cafe for upcoming events but usually held on Saturday nights.
4. Mister Bell's Bar - Karaoke Night
Wednesday night at 8PM - you're sure to have some fun and meet some colorful town people!
5. Music Festivals & Cultural Events
There are many organized music & cultural events held yearly in Kau. This year, there was a large two day event with Hawaii's biggest bands in June. See flyer. On 4th of July weekend, Naalehu Park had a parade, hula & cultural exhibition, & bands all day long. Labor Day weekend there is something similar. Ocean View also had one of its first music events this year at the Ocean View Park (Kahuku Park). These types of events are "usually" free to the public so just check around once you are here - spontaneous events & music are always popping up!
