Don't just go on vacation - experience it

Since Lanai doesn't have a lot of variety in shopping, eating, or accommodation (due to a very small population), you might not be able to be picky about your options when visiting this island.
Some ideas to make your Lanai visit a little greener:
Look for local small businesses or individuals to spend your money with. This may be difficult as the resort(s) control most of the visitor industry there, but you can always try - ask around!
Try to eat and/or order locally grown produce/fish/meat so that your meal isn't shipped in. Shipping in supplies to Lanai is particularly expensive and fuel intensive due to its more remote nature (supplies have to go through more ports before reaching Lanai).
Gas is extraordinarily expensive in Lanai (again, due to the shipping issues mentioned above). If renting a car means you get the chance to explore and maybe also to go camping - then it's probably worth the extra expense - good thing the island is small!
