Don't just go on vacation - experience it GREEN!
How to Get your Cleaning Fee Back
Instead of charging a mandatory cleaning fee like most vacation rentals in Hawaii, we recognize that some travelers are willing to do this cleaning themselves to save some money - and we'd like to offer you the option to do just that! This is a trial program so please don't abuse it - we hope it turns out to be a successful model that other vacation rentals will also incorporate (please also don't ask us to change the specific rules of the program just for you)!
Here's the deal:
-Complete instructions & a checklist will be in your rental so no need to print this out (but you MUST fill out the checklist in your rental)-
We still charge the cleaning fee upon booking - it is up to you to let us know BEFORE YOUR ARRIVAL (within 24 hours of booking) if you plan to clean for yourself (we will then let our cleaning crew know). Sorry, if you do not let us know in advance, you are not eligible for this program since we have already prepared linens for you and arranged cleaning services for your departure. Please understand.
We will gladly refund your credit card (or write you a check if you paid through other means) AFTER you depart and we have verified that you, in fact, completed this simple checklist satisfactorily. Please be aware that we reserve the right to not refund your cleaning fee or only a part of it if you do not complete all of the below properly.
What do I have to do (all the dirty details)? The idea is that it is left like you were never there.....but of course we have to clarify exactly what that means, below.
1)
Pack out your own garbage. You can either use your own garbage bags during your stay to keep it simple or use our current garbage cans/bags and then pack those out BUT then you also have to put a clean garbage bag in them (will be provided). You will see garbage dumps (there are signs) off the main road in Waiohinu, Hookena, Kailua-Kona, and all other major cities.
2)
Put all items/furniture back in original condition. Basically, straighten up.
3)
Bring your own linens (pillow cases, blankets, sleeping bags, towels, & bed sheets). *We will provide basic pillows but feel free to bring your own if you want. You MUST bring a bed sheet to cover the beds & will need a blanket and/or sleeping bag since it gets chilly here at night, especially during the winter months.
4) Vacuum and wipe dust off your rental. *Vacuum & cloths provided.
5) Wipe off/clean kitchen and grill if you used them. Make sure all dishes are clean & put back in the cabinets.
6) Clean the toilet & sanitize it.
7) Clean off anything else you used - simply, leave no trace.
You don't have to bring any cleaning supplies; we will provide everything you need (we use only eco-friendly cleaning supplies which are a little more costly but Mother Earth prefers them)! Let us know asap if you'd like to participate in this program. We hope you like having the option!
PROGRAM UPDATE
**Now that a majority of guests have participated in this program over the past year we are able to evaluate its effectiveness. We’ve had extremely strong positive feedback from the guests participating BUT have also noticed that over time we still have to pay for cleaning services since guests aren’t cleaning as well as a cleaning service would. Please make sure to do your part and not miss the little things like dust, small pieces of dirt, & making the kitchen sink sparkle! If we continue to have to pay for extra cleaning service even though guests have participated in this program, we will have to discontinue the opportunity. We are in essence paying you the same amount we pay the professional cleaning company so we do expect the same level of cleaning! Hopefully guests will help each other out too & if they see something dirty, will help to leave it clean even if it didn’t originate from them! This is the only way to keep prices low for everyone!!! |
