1. Manuka State Park (Ocean View)
Location: Just north of the 81 mile marker off the main highway 11 (turn is towards the mountain). Less than 5 miles from Lova Lava Land.
Review: A peaceful and rarely crowded park with a short loop hike, picnic tables, compost toilets, and small garden display. Nice shady place to spend a few hours, have a picnic lunch, or relax with a book.
2. Kahuku Park (Ocean View)
Location: Paradise Circle, 4 blocks from highway 11 and Ocean View Town Center (towards the mountain). Less than 2 miles from Lova Lava Land.
Directions: Several ways to get there, depending on which road you turn on (towards the mountain). Easiest is to turn towards the mountain off highway 11, where you see Ace Hardware and the Ocean View Town Center. Instead of making a left towards the shopping center, make a right, go 2 1/2 blocks, and you will be on Paradise Circle. Go around until you see the park.
Review: Nice small community park with playground, picnic tables, and a volleyball court.
3. Waiohinu Town Park (Waiohino)
Location: Directly off the main highway 11 (you can see it from the road) towards the mountain in the town of Waiohino. Waiohino is the next town after Ocean View if you heading towards Hilo. Approximately 15 miles from Lova Lava Land.
Review: Very important to the local residents, this is a location to get free drinkable county water. Before we installed our water tank, this was our major water source - bringing gallons of water from here back to Lova Lava Land. Besides that, the park has a large grassy field, picnic tables, and flushable toilets. They often hold community events here, particularly on the weekends.
4. Naalehu Town Park (Naalehu)
Location: Directly off the main highway 11 (you can see it from the road), on the ocean side in the town of Naalehu. The next town after Waiohino towards Hilo. Approximately 17 miles from Lova Lava Land.
Review: Often the location of music festivals, sports events, & other community activities, this park is a large field in the middle of a small country town. It's walking distance to the town center with restaurants and shopping.
