Maui, Hawaii Camping - National Park Campgrounds, State Campgrounds, County Campgrounds
There are 8 total campgrounds to choose from in Maui: 4 national park campgrounds, 2 state campgrounds, and 2 county campgrounds.
If you want a real nature experience, put Big Island on your itinerary and check out this Hawaii Eco-Resort that is cheap like camping BUT oh so much more (and you don't have to sleep in a tent).
Maui National Park Campgrounds
Haleakala National Park operates four campgrounds. Paliku and Holua campgrounds are in the crater. Hosmer Grove and the Pools at Oheo campgrounds are outside the crater. Camping in the National Park is free, but a permit is required and the numbers of campsites are limited.

Camping permits can be processed no more than 11 months in advance of the requested date at all listed offices, regardless of the location of the requested campsite.
