1. What does 'security/damage deposit' mean?
Some lodging providers require an additional refundable deposit to protect
their place against damage, or possibly even extraordinary cleaning bills.
Think of this just like a security deposit for a long term apartment rental.
These deposits can range in being due before arrival or upon arrival.
Additionally, a credit card number may be all that's needed or a lodging
provider may actually cash a check or require a cashier's check. We clearly
display these requirements to you on the search results page, on the lodging's
individual "Policies" page, upon booking, and in all booking receipts. Thus,
the information is not hidden and if there is a security deposit, you will be
fully informed as to all the requirements.
These security deposits protect against loss in revenue for the lodging
provider, thereby making accommodations cheaper for everyone (since prices
don't have to be raised to offset 'extra damage'). Each lodging provider will
give you their specific instructions for how to deal with these 'additional
deposits,' if applicable.
GLAD Travel takes no part in these security deposits except to pass on the
information to you that is directly from the lodging provider. Please realize
any disagreements or questions regarding these deposits should be sent directly
to the lodging (you will be given all contact information after booking) - not
to GLAD Travel. Thanks for your cooperation!
